When Does Sanity Enterprise Make Sense for Your Team?

If you’re running a large organisation with big content needs, you’ve probably heard about Sanity Enterprise. It’s the “supercharged” version of SanityCMS, designed for teams that need priority support, advanced security, and resources to handle heavy lifting.

But does it make sense for your org? In this article, we’ll break down what Sanity Enterprise offers, when it makes sense to make the jump, and what you should know before you commit.

What is Sanity Enterprise?

Sanity Enterprise is SanityCMS, but built for the big leagues. It’s not just a larger version of their Growth Plan. It takes everything you already love about Sanity—flexible content modelling, blazing-fast APIs, and an intuitive editing experience—and layers on enterprise-grade features designed for large teams and complex projects. Think more power, more support, and more control.

It offers priority support with dedicated account management and faster response times, making it ideal for mission-critical projects where downtime isn’t an option.

It improves security by providing features like Single Sign-On (SSO) and custom roles, helping large organisations maintain compliance and control over user access.

For performance, it’s designed to handle scale. You’ll get higher API request limits and access to more resources, ensuring your systems stay fast even during heavy traffic.

Finally, it enhances team collaboration by allowing you to manage more users with advanced role-based permissions tailored for complex workflows.

Why Consider Sanity Enterprise?

First-class support, directly in Slack

The biggest thing that enterprise offers is its dedicated account management and support team. Together with our clients, we have direct access to a huge support team of engineers and and SREs, directly through Slack. Often these are the people building Sanity itself. They know it like the back of their hands.

This support is second to none, and helps things move along quickly. Whether your development team are stuck on a feature implementation, want some advice on the best way to handle some business logic, or want examples of other projects doing something similar, this team is at the end of your fingers ready to support.

I’ve often jumped on calls with actual Sanity engineers to discuss our client’s needs, or the inner workings of specific Sanity features and how best to leverage it.

It’s led to incredible success with clients like Too Good To Go, where the timeline we were working to wouldn’t have been possible without the first-class support Sanity provided.

Scalability and performance

Sanity’s performance is already second-to-none. Its APIs are quick, and its worldwide CDN and edge-caching make for lightning-fast data retrieval. The Enterprise plan improves this further with higher limits on API requests and more.

And with no hard limits, your content will always be accessible whenever you need it, no matter how much your traffic spikes or how many users you acquire.

User’s on the Enterprise plan will have priority access to the CDN, and are able to set up custom CDN domains to white label content delivery.

Security, compliance, and control

Sanity Enterprise covers all the security bases. The platform is SOC 2, GDPR and CCPA compliant. They have 24/7/365 monitoring, with greater than 99.9% uptime, and offer uptime SLAs on their Enterprise plan.

They also offer SAML SSO and custom access controls to ensure you’re able to maintain full control over exactly who can access what. These custom access controls can be as granular as specific document types with specific data, such as only articles that the currently logged in user has written, for instance.

Sanity’s Growth Plan only supports 90 days of history retrieval for draft content, and 90 days of activity feed event records. The Enterprise plan increases this to 365 days by default, and complete review history can be stored indefinitely on request.

Automatic backups can also be setup and managed by Sanity for your content when on the Enterprise plan. User’s on the Growth plan will need to manage this themselves with a product like SnapShooter.

When Should You Upgrade?

1. Your Team Needs First-Class Support

If your content platform is business-critical and downtime could significantly impact your organisation, the dedicated support Sanity Enterprise offers is a game-changer.

For organisations running large-scale content operations or operating on tight timelines, this level of support can mean the difference between meeting a deadline or missing it.

2. Your Content Demands Are Growing

Scaling a content platform isn’t just about traffic. As your organisation grows, you might face more complex content models, increased API request volumes, and higher demands for global performance. Sanity Enterprise’s expanded API limits, edge caching, and CDN enhancements ensure your platform stays fast and reliable no matter how much traffic you drive or how complex your data becomes.

If your team is hitting the limits of the Growth Plan and you’re paying overages each month, or you’re planning a major campaign or expansion, it could be worth having a conversation about the Enterprise plan.

3. Security and Compliance Are Non-Negotiable

For industries like healthcare, finance, or any organisation dealing with sensitive data, maintaining strict control over access and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements is crucial. Sanity Enterprise’s enhanced security features—such as SAML SSO, custom roles, and SOC 2 compliance—make it a strong choice for teams that can’t compromise on security.

If your organisation is undergoing security audits, expanding into new regulated markets, or simply growing its user base, the Enterprise plan provides peace of mind and operational resilience.

4. You Want to Future-Proof Your CMS

Investing in Sanity Enterprise isn’t just about solving today’s problems—it’s about preparing for the future. Features like extended content history, automated backups, and advanced role-based permissions mean your team can confidently scale operations without worrying about outgrowing the platform.

If your organisation is planning for long-term growth, migrating early can streamline the transition and allow your team to take full advantage of Sanity’s enterprise-grade capabilities from the start.

Cost vs. Value

Sanity Enterprise is a significant investment, and the cost may be a jump from your Growth plan. So a key question to ask is: does the value justify the price?

For some organisation, the answer is no. The Growth plan will be good enough, and their team can spend the time figuring out issues without the dedicated support team.

But for many organisations, the answer will be yes.

If you’ve ever had your dev team stuck in the weeds with a big launch, or you’re facing tight deadlines, you know how crucial it is to have support you can actually rely on.

The support is often a big enough reason to move to Enterprise, but second to that is security. Breaches or compliance failures can be devastating, both financially and reputationally. With features like Single Sign-On and custom roles, Enterprise gives you that peace of mind.

If you’re an organisation that would benefit from Enterprise, most likely you’d find that the up-front cost is saved many times over, with faster go-to-markets, cheaper collaboration, less development costs, and less critical issues.

Real-World Examples

Let’s look at how organisations are using Sanity Enterprise to solve real challenges and unlock new opportunities.

International Marketing Team for a Worldwide Organisation

When Too Good To Go, the world’s largest food-saving app, needed a flexible CMS to support their growing international marketing efforts, they turned to Sanity Enterprise. With content teams in 19 countries and content in 23 localisations, their team needed a solution that could handle localised content at scale without compromising on collaboration, speed, or security.

Here’s how Sanity Enterprise made it happen:

  • Localisation Made Easy: Sanity’s flexible content modelling enabled Too Good To Go to manage multiple languages and regional campaigns, all from a single platform.
  • Advanced Permissions: Custom roles ensured each regional team could access and update their own content without risking changes to other markets.
  • Reliable Performance: With Sanity Enterprise’s high API limits, the CMS easily handled traffic surges during global campaigns.
  • Seamless Collaboration: Marketing teams across continents worked in real-time, supported by live previews and click-to-edit functionality, ensuring campaigns were executed quickly and accurately.
  • Infinite Customisability: We built custom tools to integrate with the workflows the content teams were already using, to import and export, and format content in the ways they needed. This just wasn’t possible with any other CMS.

The Result: Too Good To Go successfully scaled their marketing efforts across multiple regions, streamlining their workflows and improving collaboration across a global team. Click here to read more about this case study.

Global E-Commerce Giant

A multinational retailer needed a CMS that could handle regional content for dozens of countries while supporting seasonal traffic spikes, like Black Friday. With Sanity Enterprise, they scaled seamlessly:

  • High API limits ensured the site stayed responsive, even with millions of daily visitors.
  • Regional teams managed content locally, with advanced role-based permissions to maintain control.
  • Priority support ensured that any issues were resolved before they could impact revenue.

The Result: Faster updates, happier customers, and no downtime during critical sales periods.

Content-Heavy Media Platform

A media company publishing hundreds of articles daily needed better workflows for their global editorial teams. Upgrading to Sanity Enterprise allowed them to:

  • Use SSO to streamline access for dozens of contributors.
  • Implement custom workflows to manage approvals and publishing schedules.
  • Rely on priority support to troubleshoot quickly, keeping the newsroom moving.

The Result: Increased productivity, smoother collaboration, and faster publishing times.

Questions to Ask Before Upgrading

Upgrading to Sanity Enterprise is a big decision, so it’s worth asking yourself (and your team) some key questions to make sure it’s the right move:

  1. Are we hitting limits with the Growth plan?
  2. If you find you’re often hitting your Growth plan limits and keep increasing them, it could be worth looking at the Enterprise plan for a consistent bill you can plan for.
  3. Do we need advanced security and compliance features?
  4. For organisations with strict security requirements, features like Single Sign-On (SSO) and custom user roles can be essential.
  5. Are we managing complex, multi-team workflows?
  6. If your organisation spans multiple regions, brands, or departments, Sanity Enterprise’s advanced collaboration tools and role-based permissions can simplify content management.
  7. Is our CMS critical to business operations?
  8. If downtime or delayed support could impact revenue or operations, priority support and dedicated account management become invaluable.
  9. Are we ready to fully utilise the Enterprise features?
  10. Make sure your team or agency can implement and leverage features like localisation, workflow automation, and advanced integrations—otherwise, you risk paying for tools you don’t use.
  11. Does the cost align with the value?
  12. Assess whether the time, money, and headaches saved by Enterprise features justify the investment. If your organisation relies heavily on a CMS for day-to-day operations, the ROI can be substantial.

If you’re answering “yes” to most of these, it’s probably time to have a conversation about upgrading.

You’ve got a decision to make

Sanity Enterprise isn’t just a larger version of the Growth plan—it’s a tailored solution for organisations that need scalability, advanced security, and rock-solid support. Whether you’re scaling up a global marketing team, managing complex workflows, or navigating strict security and compliance requirements, Enterprise offers the tools, support, and performance to help you succeed.

That said, it’s not for everyone. Before you commit, make sure you’ve assessed your organisation’s needs, capacity, and the suitability of the Growth plan. The real value of Sanity Enterprise lies in how well it’s implemented and utilised, so having a clear roadmap—and the right team to execute it—is essential.

For teams working at scale, the investment often pays for itself through faster timelines, fewer roadblocks, and peace of mind. And with the ability to tailor the platform to your exact needs, Sanity Enterprise ensures you’re not just keeping up—you’re staying ahead.

If you think Enterprise might be the right fit for your organisation, start by having a conversation with Sanity or your digital agency. The right partner can help you navigate the transition and ensure you’re set up for long-term success.
